Title picture: The Outsider’s Guide to Gaborone
There is much to know about Gaborone and we list our favorite resources for the city, looking at it from different angles and for different purposes. Find the latest events happening in town on social media, valuable resources for families or your best hikes in the area on Gab’s blogs, or check out the comprehensive PDF guide from our friends at The Outsider’s Guide to Gaborone – these resources provide helpful and accurate information on how to navigate and enjoy this cool city of ours.
On the lesser helpful side, however, we must mention the amount of outdated and inaccurate information that is out there, particularly on sites like Tripadvisor and even Google, and on a number of pages and blogs that either date too far back or are simply created with generic AI bots.
We can vouch for information on the sites listed below and on our articles at the Gaborone Explorer, as all of it is curated, checked and up-to-date for our common goal to put the real Gaborone out there.

Compact Guide:
The Outsider’s Guide to Gaborone
If you’re looking for a compact PDF guide for a great overview or to share with others, the recently published Outsider’s Guide to Gaborone provides exactly that. The author and long time Gaborone resident Elle Brooks has taken her years of experience in Gabs to paper and collaborated with friends and experts to put this handy document together, perfect to forward to friends and visitors or use yourself for inspiration around where to go in the city.
Explorer’s note: Given that Elle has published the Outsider’s Guide around a similar time to when we went live with the Gaborone Explorer, we have been asked whether we had worked together or even if it was one and the same. However, we can share that we are not (yet) in collaboration with the Outsider’s Guide, but are since in exchange and will see if we could join forces for a more visible and accessible Gaborone :-)
Events:
Unmuted267 & Cityvibes Gabs
Definitely the best addresses for events and happenings in the city are the online outlets Unmuted267 and Cityvibes Gabs! Unmuted267 is a cool and youthful online magazine that showcases what’s going on in the city over the weekend, even reporting from the hottest events and highlighting what’s new in popular media and youth culture – highly recommended.
With Cityvibes Gabs, there’s another reliable place that posts all events that are going up in the city, from concerts to markets to arts and family events, everything posted in one place on Instagram.
Explorer’s note: You’ll see that especially month-end weekends have a large number of events happening in the city and beyond, sometimes almost too many to choose from.

Runs & Hikes:
The Gaborone Runner
This is our go-to place for information and ideas around running and hiking, with great run ideas and route recommendations, and details and shared experiences about hikes in the area. In the format of a personal blog, the author Shathiso shares her adventures on her running journey, of family hikes, and even travels around the continent and world for all of us to enjoy and learn from.
Explorer’s note: When scrolling down a little bit, there’s categories on the right that help with filtering the articles by topic (eg. Hiking, I Run Gabs City, etc.)

The official site of Botswana Tourism also hosts some valuable information about the country and visiting, both around important sights and places and a range of general travel information. Some of it might not be up to date, so it’s best to double check.

BONUS: Facebook
Botswana is Facebook-land and you’re much more likely to find an active Facebook page than a website in this country. Facebook rules here and it’s often the best resource for information, news, events, businesses, renting, communities and to buy or sell things (in groups or on marketplace). Simply search for what you’re looking for or follow businesses, news outlets or even the government.
Explorer’s note: We made sure to list all of the mentioned places in the Explore articles with their Facebook pages, so make sure to follow your favorite ones.
