6 Sunset Spots in Gaborone

Published: 8 April 2026

Sunset hour in Gaborone, and in Botswana altogether, is magical, and it being one of the most sun-blessed countries in the world, you get a lot of those hours throughout the year! Gaborone has over 300 sunshine days a year and often even on rainy days the sun will peak through just before dark, so you’ll need some options to enjoy those sunsets and views from, of which we offer you our favorites here.

Sunset Spots:

  • Kgale Hill

  • Table50two

  • Gaborone Dam & Yacht Club

  • Sundown Bar

  • Altitude Deck

  • Skyview Lounge

  • BONUS

Kgale Hill

Gaborone’s backyard hill is not only one of the most popular places to go and hike but also provides one of the best sunsets in the city. Hiking up the roughly 300m high hill takes about 45 minutes to an hour and offers the best views onto the city at large, the dam and the surrounding hills, particularly for sunset hour!

Explorer’s note:‍‍ ‍While popular for sunset, Kgale Hill actually boasts even higher popularity in the early hours of the day for sunrise, where you’ll find a lot of people enjoying an early workout.

Table50two

Within the city bounds, the restaurant Table50two on Botswana’s highest building, the south tower of the iTowers (112m), has the best views of downtown Gabs and makes for a must-see sunset. Whether for dinner or just a drink or two, you can enjoy the views on the beautiful rooftop-terrace of the tower as you close off the day.

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍We recommend calling in to reserve a table on the sunset side of the terrace, just to be sure.

Gaborone Dam & Yacht Club

Another great sunset view, this time on the ground, is enjoyed at the Gaborone Dam, best so at the Yacht Club on the little peninsula connected to the dam’s shores. This could be with a restaurant visit at the club, a picnic somewhere on the way or even a trip on the whole other side of the dam, beyond Sanitas and Bojalana Waterfront around the dam wall.

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍When going outside of opening hours of the Yacht Club, or through other entrances, one is usually required to get access tickets from the water utilities office (located along Old Lobatse Road in G-West Industrial), though not strictly enforced and sometimes a tip to the guards can do for it.

Sundown Bar

Back to the CBD, the Sundown Bar & Pool Deck at 430 Hotel is a bit of a hidden gem for the city folks and a lesser known spot for a beautiful sunset. As the name suggests, it’s very much the right place for sunset-lovers and has a lovely bar and a beautiful pool on the terrace.

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍Similar to Table50two, this one is a chic place, so it’s advisable to dress accordingly (no shorts, flipflops, etc.)

Altitude Deck

Out in Setlhoa, the Altitude Deck is yet another rooftop-bar on top of a hotel, this time the 38 on Boulders Hotel. It’s a nice hangout spot with good drinks and equally good vibes, and it offers 360 degree views around the city bounds and far out to the hills.

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍You’re not as high as with Table50two (or Kgale Hill) but maybe the lax atmosphere and cool Setlhoa vibe will make up for it.

Skyview Lounge

Circling back into the CBD one last time, we find Skiview across from The Fields Mall, a rooftop bar with beautiful views over the city centre and a lovely atmosphere around sundown hour.

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍Skyview has always had their Google Maps pin all over the place, make sure to spot the actual place from the Fields parking as you see the building next to the football and padel pitches.

BONUS: Other venues

While not outright sunset spots, there are a few bars and places around town that we like the vibes (and light) around sunset hour. Namely Court Five near the National Stadium, Joy City Park and Park27 in Broadhurst/Tsholofelo, the restaurant gardens at Avani, Cresta and the Grand Palm, and most sports clubs like Gaborone Golf Club, Blue Tree Golf and the Gaborone Club (Zest has unfortunately closed earlier this year).

Explorer’s note:‍ ‍Most sports clubs have restaurants and bars on site and you don’t need to pay to access, and for Joy City Park it’s a worthy p20 entry fee per adult.
