There are many spots to enjoy a good coffee or a lovely breakfast in Gaborone, with a number of cafés that answer to the wishes of many different preferences. From great coffee, to teas, juices, matcha and a range of food from brunch to lunch, some of these spots even host a great cocktail menu and fine dining options. The Patio is a cute tucked away café and deli in Extension 4, not too far from Main Mall and used to be a popular Portuguese spot called Caravella. It’s a favorite café in town but also offers great food and the occasional quiz night or live music evening.

The Daily Grind
Being the sibling to Two Six Seven (see 10 Restaurants in Gaborone) with the same ownership, The Daily Grind shows with some of the best breakfast food and coffee you could wish for, and is therefore popular for breakfast, brunch and coffee meetings.
Explorer’s note: You really can’t go wrong in their menu but still go ahead and try their pancakes!

Museum Café
The Museum Café opened in late 2025 and is embedded in the National Museum, cozied around the old Rhodesian train which makes for a great setting and backdrop. Service is a bit slow but it’s a cozy place with an extensive food and drinks offering.
Explorer’s note: Combine with a museum visit or at least peak into the inner yard and the displayed presidential limousines right next to the café.

Sanitas Tea Garden
Beyond it being a great café, tea garden and restaurant, Sanitas even qualifies as a place to see and visit when in Gaborone and makes for a great weekend excursion. It’s a bit of a distance to reach but very much worth it as it gets you out into the nature and beautiful garden setting.
Explorer’s note: This is the spot for two very particular types of people: Tea lovers and plant nerds – the best and most extensive tea menu, coupled with a large garden centre and plant nursery to browse through.

Ola Tia is located in the smaller mall just across from Airport Junction and hosts great coffee and cake, a chill atmosphere and a whole range of cool events – from open mic nights to speed dating and live concerts.
Explorer’s note: Salsa nights, speed dating and open mic evenings, or book clubs, cake making and other creative events, they seem to equally serve extroverts and introverts :)

A true hybrid in its nature as a place with coffee and cocktails side by side, Gaborone’s News Café is loved by business and leisure crowds alike. Pay a visit and watch it transform throughout the day and into the night, while enjoying great drinks and meals.

Studio Café
A spot with great ambiance and a beautiful setting, Studio Café is a bit of a hidden gem in Gaborone. Across from South Ring Mall, it’s a dining-driven place with great food and perfect for a culinary experience.

Café Dijo
Back to the coffee-focused cafés, Café Dijo is a household name and one of the more traditional spots with your café staples like great coffee, breakfast and light meals, and even a solid matcha. With a homey vibe, it is your best bet on the Kgale side of town, on the back side of Game City.

Downstairs
Downstairs is a fairly new place at Riverwalk, next to Dros, and has a cool vibe and decor with a sizable outdoor area to enjoy drinks and food at from morning to evening. They have a varied menu with refreshing drinks and foods from salads to burgers and even sushi in their menu (which is all-halal by the way).
Explorer’s note: Fun fact: Apparently it’s called Downstairs because its literally downstairs of Bukhara Riverwalk, who’s ownership has started the Downstairs café.

The Yellow Giraffe
The new kid on the block, and the block is called Commerce Park! The Yellow Giraffe is a true community café, with their location in the business area they attract a lunch and afterwork crowd and they’re great at building a community and following, which you should be part of.
Explorer’s note: We recommend joining their open run club, the hottest in town these days, on Thursday evenings at 5.30pm for a spin around Commerce Park and the subsequent ice plunge.

BONUS: Perfect Pour
As a coffee lover favorite with different locations in Gabs, Perfect Pour definitely deserves to be listed here as a coffee shop with excellent brews and bakes. They can be found at Shell Riverwalk in Village and in Setlhoa (at Lion Tutoring), and their takeout cups can be found all over Instagram.
